Water Management

Kadant water management systems carefully control mill process water use and non-product output to help reduce operating costs and achieve compliance with environmental requirements. Our integrated systems are used to drain water from the sheet during formation, filter the whitewater from the process, and reuse the water for conditioning and cleaning of the paper machine clothing. The objective of all our systems is to reduce or recycle as much water as possible, decreasing the wastewater stream volume and concentration and improving paper quality.

Fabric Conditioning and Cleaning Systems
These systems include a variety of low- and high-pressure showering assemblies to clean paper machine clothing. Shower oscillation is a must in critical positions on the machine. In some positions, Uhle boxes with a variety of cover materials, depending on the application, are used to vacuum debris from the clothing.

Showers are supplied with a variety of replaceable shower nozzles, sized according to the application.

Sheet Formation Systems
An integrated system of drainage elements and vacuum systems used to precisely remove water from the slurry and form the fiber into a solid web. Effective systems include a systematic combination of structures, wear surfaces, and vacuum control components required to provide optimum sheet quality.

Water Filtration Systems
Pressure and gravity filters and vacuum assisted strainers recycle wastewater used during the formation process. Pressure filters in a variety of sizes remove very fine dirt particles that may clog the shower nozzles. Gravity filters remove larger impurities during the first water-recycling stage. Vacuum Assisted (VA) strainers are enclosed filtering systems that use a vacuum to extract fiber and fine particles from the wastewater for reuse in the papermaking process.
